Three stars. Better gym than most five-star properties.
The assumption that luxury equals better equipment is one HotelFit was built to disprove. The Motto by Hilton in Washington D.C. is a case study. A compact, intelligently designed gym that outscores multiple five-star competitors on our inspection checklist.
We stayed as guests for a work trip โ which means this review reflects the gym in standard operating condition, seen by someone who had no idea we were reviewing it. The score of 78/100 places it firmly in Great tier, and it feels earned on every point.
Maximum function, minimum footprint.
The gym is compact โ approximately 800 square feet โ but the layout is exceptional. Dumbbells run from 5 to 75 lbs without interruption. That weight ceiling beats most properties twice the price. A single functional trainer handles cable work competently. Four treadmills, two bikes, and an elliptical cover cardio without overcrowding the floor.
A compact gym doesn't have to be a compromised gym. Motto by Hilton understands the difference between small and insufficient.
Cleanliness scored a perfect 12/12 and Safety scored 7/7 โ two categories where budget properties most often fall short. The AED is wall-mounted in plain sight. Sanitizing stations at every station. Equipment was wiped down and organized at 7:15 AM, suggesting evening staff follow proper closing procedures. 24-hour access is a meaningful differentiator โ early flights and late returns are part of every traveler's reality.
The limitations are real, just not dealbreakers.
There is no recovery infrastructure โ no sauna, no pool, no steam room. Expected at this price point, but worth stating plainly. The machine selection is thin: one functional trainer and two selectorized machines. Guests who need a chest press machine or leg extension will be programming around the limitations.
The flexibility area is a single stretching mat in the corner. No foam rollers were available during our visit, though a cabinet nearby suggested they may be available on request. The cardio lineup, while sufficient, doesn't include a rowing machine โ minor, but noted by frequent travelers who row.
Should you book here for the gym?
Motto by Hilton proves that three stars doesn't have to mean a neglected gym. The dumbbell rack to 75 lbs, a cable machine, and spotless equipment make this one of the better-value hotel gym setups we've inspected in Washington D.C. It punches well above its category. The absence of a sauna and pool are expected at this price point. The 24-hour access and perfect cleanliness score are not โ and they make all the difference.
