HotelFit wasn't born in a marketing meeting. It was born in a hotel room at 6am, staring at a broken treadmill and a dumbbell rack that stopped at 30 lbs — after paying $400 a night. We knew there had to be a better way to know before you book.
Every fitness-focused traveler knows the frustration. You book a hotel that promises a "state-of-the-art fitness center." You pack your pre-workout. You set your 5:30am alarm. You get there and find two broken treadmills, a cable machine missing half its attachments, and a dumbbell rack that tops out at 25 lbs.
Hotel gym photos on booking sites are a work of fiction. They're shot with wide-angle lenses to make 400 square feet look palatial. They show the equipment on delivery day — before years of wear and neglect set in. They never show you what matters: whether it's actually usable for a serious workout.
"The only people qualified to review a gym are the ones who understand what a gym is actually supposed to do."
HotelFit was built to fix that. Our inspection team brings something no travel publication, booking site, or review aggregator can match: the clinical eye of a physical therapist, the programming knowledge of a certified trainer, and the spatial expertise of someone who literally designs and builds gyms for a living. We know exactly what a gym should have, how it should function, and when it's falling short — because we've built them from the ground up.
We travel constantly. We inspect relentlessly. We publish honestly. No score is ever for sale, no review is ever softened to protect a brand relationship. Just the truth about what's behind that door — however we got there.
Most gym reviews are written by travel bloggers. Ours are conducted by healthcare and fitness professionals who understand the difference between a gym that looks good and one that actually works.
There's no shortage of hotel reviews online. There's a shortage of honest, expert, in-person gym reviews. Here's the difference.
A HotelFit inspection follows the same rigorous process every time — no shortcuts, no exceptions.
Every point is earned on merit. Every category is weighted by its real-world impact on your workout.
Every review clearly states how we accessed the gym. Four methods — same checklist every time.
We're staying at the hotel for personal or work travel. The gym is accessed as a regular guest. The hotel has no knowledge of the review.
We pay the standard day pass rate as any member of the public would. The hotel has no knowledge of the review. No different from a regular paying visitor.
We contact the hotel in advance as members of the press and request gym access. The hotel is aware of the review. No fee exchanged — access only.
The hotel pays our standard inspection fee to request a review. The fee covers our time and travel — never the score. The same 54-point checklist applies. A sponsored inspection that earns a 41 gets a published score of 41.
Our 54-point checklist is objective. A treadmill is either working or it isn't. Dumbbells either go to 50 lbs or they don't. The AED is either present or it isn't. No amount of advance notice, no fee paid, and no commercial relationship changes those facts. Money buys access and visibility. The checklist determines the score.
HotelFit reaches fitness-focused travelers at the exact moment they're making hotel booking decisions. Here's how hotels and brands can work with us — transparently, and without ever touching our editorial scores.
Request a HotelFit inspection of your property by paying our standard review fee. The fee covers our inspector's time and travel — not the outcome. Your gym is evaluated against the same 54-point checklist as every other property. The score published is the score your gym earns.
Hotels with an existing HotelFit review can purchase featured placement — in our weekly newsletter, on city hub pages, and in "Editor's Picks" sections. Your score and review content remain exactly as published. Featured placement increases visibility to our fitness-focused travel audience.
Made significant upgrades to your gym? Request a formal re-inspection. Pay the re-inspection fee and we'll revisit your property and update your published score to reflect current conditions. Scores go up or down based on what's actually there. No guarantees — just an accurate current picture.
Sponsor a HotelFit city guide — "Best Hotel Gyms in New York City," "Top Hotel Gyms in Chicago," etc. Your brand appears as the presenting sponsor of the guide. Review scores and rankings within the guide are untouched. You're sponsoring the content, not influencing it.
Money buys access and visibility. It never buys the score. A hotel that pays for a sponsored inspection and earns a 44 gets a published score of 44. A hotel that purchases featured placement keeps exactly the score their gym earned. We will never alter, inflate, suppress, or negotiate a published result — regardless of the commercial relationship. This standard is what makes HotelFit worth advertising in.
